Overview

The High Peaks rise along the northern edge of the Valley of the Ancients, a range of jagged, frost-bitten summits lashed by relentless winds. Ancient watchtowers cling to the cliffs, their stones weathered by time and Umbraeth’s creeping frost, a frozen gauntlet for Aria to conquer.

Frosty cliffs and wind

Geography

Towering cliffs of ice-slicked stone soar 20 meters, carved by fierce gales that howl through narrow passes. Frozen ledges jut from the peaks, dusted with snow and stained by Umbraeth’s black ichor, while ancient glyphs shimmer faintly under a stormy sky thick with swirling clouds.

Ancient watchtower in Peaks

History

The High Peaks once stood as the Ancients’ northern sentinels, their watchtowers guarding against Umbraeth’s rise. Elyra’s stand here against his icy tendrils left the Wind Shard buried in the frost, a relic Aria must claim to harness the gales.

Inhabitants

Wind wraiths whip through the gales, their mournful cries echoing, while frostfang wolves stalk the ledges with icy teeth. Umbraeth’s icebound watchers guard the towers, and Lyra, the Wind Warden, roams the heights, her staff channeling the storm’s fury.

Puzzles

The Gale Lattice challenges Aria to channel wind bursts from the Gauntlet of Storms across three icy chimes, aligning their tones to shatter a frost-sealed gate and reveal the Wind Shard, all while evading wind wraith gusts.

Relics

The Wind Shard, a crystalline fragment humming with gusts, rests in a frozen vault, amplifying Aria’s wind abilities against Umbraeth’s forces. An Icefang Claw, dropped by frostfang wolves, glows pale and boosts agility when wielded.

Companions

Lyra, the Wind Warden, appears atop the peaks, her silver eyes sharp beneath a wind-torn cloak. Wielding a staff that summons gales, she aids Aria against watchers and wraiths, her mastery of the winds guiding the path to the Wind Shard.

Role in the Narrative

The High Peaks test Aria’s resilience, the Wind Shard empowering her to wield the storm against Umbraeth’s frost. Lyra’s alliance strengthens her resolve, revealing the Ancients’ wind mastery as she carves a path toward the Valley’s heart.
